Good fats are our friends!! Healthy monounsaturated, polyunsaturated, and saturated fats are crucial for fertility and pregnancy. Fat is essential for the production of hormones and helps the body absorb vitamins and provides energy. Women who don’t have enough stored energy and body fat to sustain a pregnancy often have trouble ovulating. Fats serve as the building blocks for your baby’s brain and nervous system. You do want to avoid these unhealthy fats however. Too much of the wrong kind of fat can cause problems (like clogged arteries that limit healthy blood flow to organs). Best Sources: Monounsaturated fats (olive oil, nuts, avocados), polyunsaturated fats/omega 3 & 6’s (fish, flax) and saturated fats (coconut oil, grass-fed beef).
